Youth & Investigation Division
This division is responsible for the investigations of criminal offenses; the detection, arrest, processing and prosecution of criminals; locating missing or wanted persons; recovery of stolen property; interrogation of suspects; and incidents of misbehavior involving juveniles. Surveillance, crime prevention programs and school liaison duties and programs such as D.A.R.E. are also performed from within this division. YOUTH
The Youth arm of the Youth & Investigation Division work to divert youths from delinquent behavior and investigates all criminal/delinquent offenses committed by or against youths. This unit maintains liaison with local schools, agencies, and other resources that provide services for youths.
The Youth Division works with the community in developing problem solving procedures; therefore, challenging the direct causes of crime through community engagement and diligent investigations. The division encourages building community capital through establishing trust through valuing trust and diversity.
The current goals of the Youth Services Division support the organizations and community groups that work every day to put an end to youth homelessness, delinquency, physical and sexual abuse, truancy, educational neglect, runaway, and domestic violence.
Youth Services Division, is responsible for investigating the following:
- Investigating Child Deaths,
- Child Abuse and Neglect
- Investigating Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation
- Investigating Juvenile Missing Persons (under the age of 18 years) & Parental Kidnapping
- Investigate Reports of Runaway Juveniles and Absconders
The services provided by the Youth Division help to support the following goals:
- Improving Outcomes for Youth
- Ensuring School Engagement
- Promoting the Role of Prevention
- Engaging Youth, Family, and Community
- Diverting Youth from the Justice System
- Reducing Recidivism and Institutionalization

INVESTIGATION
The Investigation arm of the Youth & Investigation Division works to apprehend, investigate, and prosecute criminal offenders, locating mission or wanted persons, recover stolen property, and interrogate suspects and witnesses. Also, this arm of the Division is responsible for conducting follow-up investigations, and background checks of fire and police applicants.
Members of the Investigation arm of this Division regularly attend meetings to share information on criminal activities throughout the area and to gain greater knowledge of what is happening in and around the City of Trenton.
